It is not a good idea to let the tub dry out once it is saturated with moisture. The wood will shrink from its current dimensions and will lead to gaps. Thus, if it will then get filled with water, you will have significant leaks, and those leaks will probably not all subside. You would likely need to take some other additional measures to get all the leaks sealed.
